Meet a Real-Life Energy Advisor: Brian Hawk carves out energy savings for Noble REMC members

Brian Hawk had an interesting path from working as a union carpenter to energy advisor for Noble REMC. Nowadays, you can see him on the golf course or even singing in a rock band. And he’s currently working on his home to apply energy-saving measures – insights that he can put to use when working with Noble REMC members.

How’d you become an Energy Advisor?
I was hired from within the company. I spent 8 years as a union carpenter before working with Noble REMC. I believe it was that experience that made the opportunity possible.

What’d you do before?
I worked on the right-of-way crew at Noble for 13 years.

What’s the last hobby you picked up?
Singing in a classic rock band.

What’s the best vacation you ever had?
We took a 7-day cruise along the shore of Alaska.

If you could switch lives with a person for one day, who would it be?
John Maxwell. I would like insight into his wisdom and discipline.

In a world without electricity, what would you miss most?
Hot water any time and cold drinks.

What’s the best thing that happened to you yesterday?
I hit a 340-yard drive down the fairway on the par-5 18th hole. (Maybe not the best thing that happened, but still really satisfying!)

How’d you change your energy habits at home after you took this job?
I am tearing my house (and mechanical system) apart trying to apply energy saving measures.

What’s the number one thing members want to know?
“Why is my usage going up?”

What’s the number one thing you wish they knew?
Heat pumps really do work well in Indiana!

If you weren’t an Energy Advisor, what would you be?
A carpenter.
